Jan Eliasson got a new UN top job

The Swedish diplomat and Social Democratic politician Jan Eliasson has accepted an offer to become new deputy secretary general of the United Nations.

Eliasson, born 1940, has already a long career behind him. He has among other things been President of the UN’s General Assembly and for a short while also Swedish Foreign Minister.

Eliasson will now discuss with Ban-ki Moon about what shall become his major tasks.
