A state appointed commission suggests that pupils shall be able to appeal their grades. The responsible minister is critical.

- My first reaction is that this shall not be implemented, says Jan Björklund, Minister for Education to the Swedish television.

Björklund believes the proposal might be lead to increased bureaucracy and be too expensive. The red-green opposition and two of the other parties in the coalition government, the Centre party and the Christian Democrats, are more positive so the issue is far from settled yet. One of the major trade unions for teachers are also positive but do not like the idea that the grades should be appealed to the schools principal, they prefer an external third part.

The reason for the proposal is that earlier investigations show that all teachers do not follow the same criteria for the grades.
