During the last weeks of 2011 there was a serious lack of butter in Norway. Many Norwegians have crossed the border to Sweden to hoard butter. Some Swedes have also offered butter for sale on the internet for extremely high prices. Now it seems like the Norwegian butter crisis is not yet over. The Norwegian dairy concern Tine which is responsible for the butter supply in Norwegian stores estimates a continued butter shortage “some time after January”.

Lars Peder Brekk, the Norwegian Agrarian Minister has criticised the dairy concern for how it has dealt with the crisis. The Norwegian government has moreover extended the period with lower butter tariffs for one month. (DN)
